Sitting On The Back Porch

by Desmond Allen

/

about

I wrote this one shortly after I retired and my wife was still working.

lyrics

Sittin’ on the back porch, waitin’ for you call; when I her the phone ring it isn’t you at all.
I’ve always been so happy, nothing to complain but since you up and left life just hasn’t been the same.

Sittin’ on the back porch, hear the front door squeak. There you stand in beauty only you could make.
I know it just sound funny, quirky and so strange but all day long is just too long to wait to see your face.

Wish I could just pretend I need not have you here, but ev’ry time I try my mind just ain’t so clear.
Wish I could just pretend I’d get along a-lone, but ev’ry time I try I just wish you’d come on home.

If you‘d only quit that job and stay at home with me, I wouldn’t have to wait all day your pretty face to see.
Ev’ry day when you’re away I sit out on the porch, waiting for the time to be, when you come home to me.

Wish I could just pretend I need not have you here, but ev’ry time I try my mind just ain’t so clear.
Wish I could just pretend I’d get along a-lone, but ev’ry time I try I just wish you’d come on home.
