There Ain't No Shortcut to Love

by Desmond Allen

/

about

My wife and I were standing in line at the checkout stand when the women in front of us said something about how hard it was to love someone. Then I said to my wife, "There ain't no shortcut to love". Then realized that would be a great song title. When we got home I wrote the song in short order.

lyrics

Let me give a warning, give a little advice; beware of messin’ with a heart of ice, And if you find the one
that you think is right, be certain your friendship is tight, tight, tight; ‘cause

Lov’in don’t come easy, there’s a price that you pay; Takes all of your heart and devotion to stay.
Lov’in don’t come easy, there’s a price that you pay; There ain’t no short-cut to love.

It starts out happy and playful all day then one day arguing about
something you say then ‘bout money, your friend the job and the bed.

It starts with learning to live and forgive; then eighteen years of
raising the kids. When that old empty nest seeks unrest in the home.

You do your best, work as hard as you can; remembrin’ times when
you held hands. Taking comfort in the com-fort of love.

Lov’in don’t come easy, there’s a price that you pay; Takes all of your heart and devotion to stay.
Lov’in don’t come easy, there’s a price that you pay; There ain’t no short-cut to love.

Reflecting on the years that have come and gone; and the harmony making
love grow strong. realizing the empty nest is bliss.

Kids come to visit ev’-ry now and then; bringin’ their kids and
all of their friends. Couldn’t get any better if you had writ-ten a script.

Lov’in don’t come easy, there’s a price that you pay; Takes all of your heart and devotion to stay.
Lov’in don’t come easy, there’s a price that you pay; There ain’t no short-cut to love.

So listen to my warning, my friendly advice; beware of messin’ with a heart of ice. And if you find the one
that you think is right, be certain your friendship is tight, tight, tight; ‘cause There aint no short-cut to love. There aint no short-cut to love. There ain’t no short-cut to love.
